Safety routines

• Sign-in and pickup

  Every child is signed in on the sheet at the front table, with the time. A child leaves only with an adult on your list, who signs the sheet; anyone we haven't met shows photo ID.

• The walk

  Two staff members meet each school's group at the door, check names against the day's list and walk the same route. We count heads at the school door and again at ours.

• Allergies and medicine

  Tell us about allergies when you tour; we ask privately once you enroll. Medicine is given only with your written permission, by a staff member trained to give it.

• When a child is ill

  A child with a fever or a contagious illness stays home. If a child becomes ill here, we call the first person on your list, and a staff member stays with the child until you arrive.

• Winter and weather

  In cold or wet weather the walk takes the shortest route, and children wear hats, gloves and boots from home. Outdoor play moves into the gym when it is icy or very cold. If the schools close for snow, we close.

• Drills and headcounts

  We practice fire drills with the children and count heads every time the group changes rooms.
